United Nations: The Secretary General of the United Nations Organization (UN), António Guterres, called to address the challenges that many people face today when working from home, just as Covid-19 infections increase in the world, Prensa Latina publishes.

According to what he said on his official Twitter account in reference to a recent report by the International Labor Organization (OIT by Spanish initials ), those who work from home must face poor conditions, inadequate wages and increased health risks.

The day before, the OIT advocated for greater protection for these workers, as their number increases amid the pandemic.

In a report titled ‘Working from home. From invisibility to decent work ‘, that UN agency detailed that these people earn on average 13 percent less in the United Kingdom; 22 percent less in the United States; 25 percent less in South Africa and 50 percent less in Argentina, India and Mexico.

In addition, those who work from home do not have the same degree of protection as others, they are less likely to join a union or appear in collective agreements.

According to OIT statistics, in the first months of the pandemic one in five workers in the world worked from home.

Before the health crisis, approximately 260 million people worked from home and now the 2020 data, once available, is expected to show a substantial increase over the previous year.

Similarly, the OIT projects that this group will continue to grow over the next few years.
