Nursultán: The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, denounced today the impact of the United States blockade against the Caribbean island at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council, based in this city, Prensa Latina publishes.

During his virtual intervention at the event, Marrero warned about the ‘complex’ global context due to Covid-19, ‘which has triggered a great systemic crisis, aggravated by trade wars and unilateral coercive measures that violate international law.’

He pointed out that Cuba has faced these challenges amid an unprecedented tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.

In this regard, he thanked the UEE member states “for their permanent support for the demand for the end of the economic blockade imposed by the United States against my country.”

Marrero pointed out that the recent inclusion of Cuba in the “arbitrary and unilateral” list of states sponsoring terrorism published by Washington is one of the most recent examples of a hostile policy, which lacks legitimacy and is doomed to failure.

Cuba rejects in the strongest terms this fraudulent designation and appreciates the support provided by the international community, he stressed.

The prime minister stressed that the island’s participation in the event has a special meaning for his country as it is the first time that the island has participated as an observer of the UEE.

The meeting is attended by representatives of UEE member states: Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan; as well as the republics of Moldova, Uzbekistan and Cuba that have the status of observer countries.

On the Cuban side, the Cuban ambassador to the Russian Federation, Julio Garmendía, appointed by his Government as permanent representative to the Eurasian Economic Commission, participates.

The UEE is an international organization created in 2015 for regional economic integration, and its objectives include the promotion of the free movement of goods, services, capital, work and people.
