Cuba ratifica prórroga a sus ciudadanos en el exterior.

Cuba: The Cuban Foreign Ministry reiterated today that the extension, automatic and without cost, of the uninterrupted stay abroad of Cuban citizens beyond 24 months remains in force, Cubasí reports.

Through his Twitter account, the general director of Consular Affairs and Cuban Residents Abroad, Ernesto Soberón, confirmed that the provisions remain unchanged until further notice, given the current epidemiological context.

“Likewise, we reiterate the validity of the rest of the provisions adopted based on the attention to our compatriots who are abroad during the pandemic?, he wrote.

The manager explained again that Cubans residing in the national territory unable to return to the Caribbean country due to Covid-19, can return “exceptionally, with their passport expired and without extension.”

He stressed that this decision, adopted in October last year, “applies to Cuban citizens residing in Cuba” who have not been able to return due to the closure of borders and the cancellation of flights as of March 19, 2020.

Cuban immigration law considers that a citizen has emigrated when he or she travels abroad for private matters and remains uninterrupted for more than 24 months without the corresponding authorization, or is domiciled abroad without complying with current regulations.

That provision itself provides for the granting of extensions for justified reasons.

Last October, Soberón explained that the government made arrangements with airlines and authorities from different countries to return Cubans and evacuate foreigners stranded in Cuba.
