On January 8, 1959, The Freedom Caravan, which announced the end of Fulgencio Batista’s tyranny and the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, arrived in Madruga.

That day changed the history of the town forever and the path towards building a better future began. The work of the Revolution in Madruga is undeniable as in the entire Antillean nation, freedom brought with it social justice, opportunities and the possibility that its men and women together carve out their own destiny.

Just because of the many things done here in terms of education and health would have been worth the fight for sovereignty. Madruga has a network of educational institutions of 24 centers attended by thousands of children, youth and adults in each school year, free of charge, a utopia before 59.

In the case of public health, also free, there are 2 comprehensive polyclinics in the territory, an equal number of physical rehabilitation rooms, a mineral-medicinal water spa, 29 medical offices and 2 dental clinics.

Professionals of high scientific level and deep humanism work in all of them, which is the essence of our health system from which Cubans and millions of human beings from other parts of the world benefit.

The housing fund grew considerably, while more than 98 percent of the population has electricity services.

In the field of culture, one can speak of one of the exploits of the Revolution, in this municipality, more than 60 kilometers away from the capital of the country, there are nine institutions including houses of culture, art galleries, museums, video rooms and cinemas. The massification of culture is a fact in Madruga and one of the strengths to defend this work of social justice that is the Revolution.

The same happens in sports where competitive results support the massive practice of physical exercises and the training of sports talents.

The conquests of the Revolution are the greatest proof of its humanistic and just essence and that Cuba is on the right side of history. Therein lies the pride of being Cuban and Madruga as part of this archipelago honors that privilege and stands as an indestructible bastion in defense of the homeland.

Much can be written about what the Revolution has meant for this people and all those achievements despite the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States maintains against Cuba for more than 60 years. Much more could we have advanced without this criminal encirclement, which the whole world rejects and which will have to stop.

Cuba will never surrender or kneel before anyone, because in each of its towns, as in Madruga, the slogan of Homeland or Death is above all an inalienable decision.
