Solidarity support from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States against Covid-19.

Havana, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, today thanked the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) for the solidarity gesture of support to face Covid-19 on the island, Prensa Latina publishes.

In his Twitter account, the president showed gratitude to the regional bloc for sending 800 thousand syringes with needles to contribute to the vaccination process in the Caribbean nation; and particularly to Mexico, which holds the temporary presidency of the integration mechanism.

The day before, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Bruno Rodríguez, expressed his gratitude to Celac and stressed that now more than ever joint cooperation is imposed.

The cargo received by the Antillean island joins the deliveries of mechanical ventilators and vaccines to other member countries, as part of the bloc’s strategy to counteract the impact of the health emergency.

For the Caribbean nation, subject to the limitations caused by the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States, the help of Celac, solidarity movements and Cubans living abroad is essential to promote the vaccination campaign with their own drugs. .

As of July 16, more than two million 91 people had received the complete immunization schedule, either in clinical trials or health interventions.

Cuba developed five drugs against Covid-19, of which Abdala has already received authorization for emergency use, while Soberana 02 completed the phase III clinical trial with 91.2 percent efficacy.

The Antillean island is experiencing the third outbreak of the disease and this Sunday reported 6,272 new infections, in addition to 62 deaths. (BSH)
