Afghanistan could be run by a council.

Kabul: The structure of the future government of Afghanistan could include a council that will govern under the authority of the top Taliban leader, the mullah (religious leader) Hibatullah Akhundzada, sources of the movement in this capital disclosed today, Prensa Latina publishes.

Wahidullah Hashemi, a member of the Taliban leadership, made such statements to the TOLO News channel and stated that the country would have ministers appointed by the head of the council.

Five days after the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul, there is still no progress in filling the current political void, The Khaama Press news agency noted.

The Central Asian nation currently lacks any type of government and head of state and the Taliban are not moving in that direction, the source stressed.

The only movement towards the formation of an Executive by the armed group is the meetings of its main members and the visit of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar – head of the Taliban’s political office in Doha – to Kandahar province.

Anas Haqqani, a member of the negotiating team in Doha, and his brother, Abdurahman Haqqani, head of the Haqqani network and a key member of the movement, met, respectively, with former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and the head of the High Council for National Reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah, in Kabul.

Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah and the head of the Islamic fundamentalist political-military faction Hezb-e-Islami, Gulabadin Hekmatyar, together form a council that apparently negotiates with the Taliban over the next government.

Also, Mullah Baradar, together with his delegation, is planning to visit Kabul and discuss the matter.

The Taliban repeatedly stated that they want to form an inclusive and Islamic government accepted by all and called on the leaders in exile to return to join them.

The armed group imposed a curfew until further notice and no one can leave their homes after 9:00 p.m. local time, except in cases of emergency.

Members of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan announced the move in all Kabul mosques and shared their contact numbers in case people need help after the forbidden hour.
