Haiti: The Prime Minister of Haiti, Ariel Henry, revoked the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in line with the agreement between the Government and around 200 socio-political organizations for the peaceful governance of the Caribbean country, Radio Rebelde reports.
The order of September 18, 2020 appointing the members of the Provisional Electoral Board is revoked. This order repeals all orders or provisions of orders that are contrary to it, the official newspaper Le Moniteur wrote.
With the revocation of the CEP, the presidential and legislative elections that were scheduled for the first days of November are postponed indefinitely.
On September 11, Henry reached an agreement to govern for a provisional period, modify the Magna Carta through a constituent assembly and hold elections as soon as possible, without determining a specific date.
As established in the governance agreement, one week after the installation of the new ministerial cabinet, an electoral body will be created, according to article 289 of the Constitution.
The political agreement also establishes creating the conditions for the holding of general elections no later than the end of 2022 within the framework of the new Constitution and the installation of legitimate elected officials in early 2023.
