Belgrade: The president of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vu?i?, inaugurated this Monday in Belgrade, the capital, the ministerial summit of the Non-Aligned Countries Movement (NAM), which commemorates the 60 years of its constitution, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.
The president welcomed the delegations from 114 countries, including some 40 foreign ministers, including the foreign ministers of Russia, Sergey Lavrov, and of Venezuela, Felix Plasencia.
Vu?i? focused his opening speech at the conclave on the importance of opening up to multilateralism and fostering dialogue as a way to promote peace.
The participating ministers will discuss for two days in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, located in southeastern Europe, the future of the Non-Aligned Movement.
The full members of the NAM are 117 countries and an autonomous territory. By region, 53 African nations participate; for Latin America 26; for Asia 38 and for Europe Belarus.
The observer countries are Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, El Salvador, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Paraguay, Serbia, Montenegro, Ukraine and Uruguay.
The NAM was founded in the midst of the bankruptcy of the colonial system and the emancipatory struggle of the peoples of Africa, Asia, Latin America and other regions of the world.
The group was created at the 1st Belgrade Summit Conference, held from September 1 to 6, 1961. The conference was attended by 28 countries (25 member countries and 3 observers), mainly new independent states.
