Khartoum: The head of Sudan’s ruling council, Abdelfatah al Burhan, announced on Monday the dissolution of the transitional government and declared a state of emergency after the arrest of the prime minister and other officials of the country, Radio Havana Cuba published.
Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok was detained and transferred to an unknown location after refusing to support the coup, the Information Ministry reported, which would still be under the control of his supporters, Reuters reports.
Most of the country’s ministers, a large number of members of pro-government political parties and a member of the Sovereign Council of Sudan have been arrested on Monday.
Tens of thousands of people have taken to the streets to protest against the military coup. At least 12 people have been injured during the clashes outside the Army headquarters in the Sudanese capital, according to the Sudanese Medical Committee.
Meanwhile, the Khartoum airport has been closed and the army has blocked the entrances to the capital, the bridges and the main streets.
The crisis in relations between the military and civil authorities has been ongoing for several weeks. Several concentrations of Army supporters in the country have taken place for the second consecutive week to demand the resignation of the Government.
