Caracas: The reports of different observation missions present in Venezuela ratify today the validity and transparency of the regional and municipal elections held on November 21 in Venezuela, Prensa Latina publishes.
The team of experts deployed in the South American nation by the Mercosur Parliament (Parlasur) presented the previous day the preliminary report on its oversight work carried out during the democratic event, described as a day that allowed the expression of the popular will.
In this regard, the vice president of Parlasur and head of the mission of the Observatory for Democracy of that organization, Oscar Laborde, acknowledged before the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela that his work team had the opportunity to meet with representatives of all the political trends.
Although isolated incidents were registered, they do not invalidate the process in general, said Laborde, who also described the Venezuelan electoral system as impeccable.
According to President Nicolás Maduro, the more than 300 observers from 55 countries, and representing various international organizations, “have seen the truth of an attacked country, which is standing up and overcoming difficulties.”
In a message published on the social network Twitter, the head of state reported on a meeting held the day before with representatives of various electoral missions that verified the transparency and legitimacy of the electoral event.
The observation delegation of the European Union (EU) also recognized on Tuesday the implementation of better conditions for holding the November 21 elections in Venezuela, compared to previous events.
When presenting her preliminary report on the oversight work, the head of the EU mission, Isabel Santos, considered the CNE directive designated in 2021 as the most balanced of the last 20 years, which contributes to generating confidence in the political life.
The MEP specified that the Venezuelan electoral authorities efficiently carried out the preparations for the electoral event, and introduced improvements in the technical components through dialogue with all the political factors of the South American country.
Among the main observations on the conduct of the elections, Santos pointed to the use of state resources in the campaign, in addition to considering the disqualification of some candidates arbitrary.
Likewise, it reported the installation of the so-called red dots, traditionally used in the country for the promotion of the partisan vote, and questioned that by decision of the judiciary, the most recognized leaders and members of some political parties have been removed from control of their symbols or electoral cards.
Isabel Santos also rejected any attempt to use the preliminary information as an object of political instrumentalization or in favor of partisan interests.
In the opinion of the Venezuelan deputy and socialist leader Tania Díaz, the EU mission failed to substantiate a file that would accompany the interventionist opinion of the United States in the elections in Venezuela; “He only made imprecise remarks and left the door open to return in January to present a new report,” she said.
