China restores diplomatic relations with Nicaragua.

Beijing: China today reestablished diplomatic relations with Nicaragua, in a step that will give new impetus to its ties and cooperation with Latin America and the Caribbean in multiple sectors, Prensa Latina publishes.

Representatives of both parties signed the document in the northern city of Tianjin that formalizes the ties between Beijing and Managua.

This text includes the decision of the two States to base their ties on the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-interference in internal affairs, equity, shared benefits and peaceful coexistence.

It also contemplates the shortly appointment of ambassadors in the respective capitals and the guarantee of necessary assistance for the establishment and performance of diplomatic missions in accordance with international standards.

Finally, the statement refers to Nicaragua’s recognition and attachment to the one-China principle, considered a necessary condition to develop cordial ties with the government of the Asian giant.

The Central American country thus cut its ties with Taiwan, which now only maintains ties with 14 territories in the world.

The international community approved with 170 votes a resolution in 1971 that considers the People’s Republic of China the only legitimate representative to the United Nations and recognizes the island of Taiwan as an inalienable part of that Asian nation.

To move towards the complete reunification of the national territory, Beijing also upholds the policy of One Country, Two Systems, applied in the administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.

However, the Taiwanese leaders refuse to accept that status.
