Damascus: The reviving of the bilateral trade and the signing of an agricultural cooperation agreement were the center of talks held on Wednesday in Damascus between Syrian Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Mohammad Hassan Qatana, and Serbian Deputy Foreign Minister Vladimir Maric.
The two officials agreed to promote exports and imports between the two countries, so that Serbia exports Syria fertilizers, agricultural production inputs, modern agricultural machinery and fodder, and at the same time, Syria supplies the Serbian markets with citrus fruits, apples, olive oil and ornamental plants.
The Syrian agriculture minister called for speeding up the signing of the cooperation agreement, the text of which was recently agreed by the two sides, and highlighted the facilities the new investment law offers, which promotes Serbian investments in the country.
In turn, the Serbian deputy foreign minister expressed his country?s willingness to build a fertilizer plant in Syria and participate in the tenders to be announced, especially in supplying modern tractors, fodder, agricultural production inputs and pesticides.
Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mekdad received the Serbian deputy minister on Tuesday and held talks with him on the prospects of cooperation.
Unlike most European countries, Serbia kept its Embassy open in Syria during the war years.
