Tegucigalpa: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Honduras reported this Tuesday that the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) accepted the complaint of former President Manuel Zelaya about the events of the coup that took place in 2009.
Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Reina stressed that “it is not about persecuting those responsible for the coup d’état, the moral objective is to reach the truth and do justice?.
Enrique Reina asserted that no more violations of the Constitution of the Republic, no more coups, no outrages on human rights, or persecution against the Honduran people will be allowed.
The foreign minister highlighted the work of the Executive headed by President Xiomara Castro aimed at achieving “recovering the rule of law and guaranteeing the full enjoyment of human rights for citizens?, he added.
The senior official maintained that there is evidence of reports and special cases, some of which involved the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and people who were illegally removed from their positions during the coup.
Reina also recalled that in 2010 several officials from the government of former President Zelaya filed a lawsuit with the IACHR, but those papers were not found at the Foreign Ministry, so they had to arrive through other communications with the former president.
For her part, the Minister of Human Rights, Natalie Roque, assured that the Secretariat will create the conditions for repairing the damage caused by the Coup, as well as the safe return of the victims and their families, who are sheltered in other nations.
On June 29, 2009, the constitutional president of Honduras, Manuel Zelaya, was forcibly removed from his residence by a group of soldiers.
