“Today we have activated the NATO defense plans, which give our military commanders more authority to move forces and deploy forces when necessary, and of course these could also be elements of the NATO response force,” Stoltenberg stated.

Referring to the special military operation on Ukrainian territory ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin to defend Donbass, Stoltenberg said that Moscow “has closed the door” to reach a political solution to the conflict.

The Russian president announced on Thursday that he has decided to carry out “a special military operation” to defend Donbass, detailing that the objective of the operation is “to protect people who have been subjected to abuse and genocide by the Kiev regime for eight years?.

The Russian Defense Ministry assured that the Russian Armed Forces are targeting the Ukrainian military infrastructure and are not attacking the surrendered troops or the civilian population.
