Cuban press workers celebrate their day today.

Cuban press workers celebrate their day today, in the context of the 130th anniversary of the founding of the Patria Newspaper by the National Hero José Martí, at the request of patriots based in New York, Prensa Latina publishes.

Patria, born in 1892, as its creator stated “to unite and love, and to live in the passion of truth”, and to unite Cubans and Puerto Ricans around the idea of ??independence, constitutes an ethical reference for journalists from this island, immersed in the purpose of transforming its press model.

In all Cuban provinces, initiatives are being developed for the Cuban Press Day, in which outstanding workers of the different media are recognized.

Last Saturday, the neighborhood of La Timba, in the Cuban capital, was the scene of the Public Press Festival, People’s Press, organized by the Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC), in which the population interacted with managers, editors, designers, photographers and journalists.

According to the president of UPEC, Ricardo Ronquillo, the festivities would be incomplete without the presence of the people, who own the public media in this Antillean nation.

For the deputy head of that organization, Jorge Legañoa, the event was a party for people interested in journalistic work and the internal functioning of the media, and allowed feedback based on the experiences of local residents.

The event for Press Day will culminate in an international colloquium dedicated to the Patria Newspaper, to be held on Monday and Tuesday, in which journalists from the world’s media and left-wing institutions will participate, as well as academic political and social actors from several countries.
