Afghanistan: At least five people died and more than 10 were injured today after an aftershock of the recent earthquake in the Afghan province of Paktika, according to state media reports.

The 5.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Afghanistan on Wednesday killed some 1,100 people and damaged some 10,000 houses, as well as affecting cell phone towers and power lines, and causing landslides that blocked mountain roads. Radio Reloj reports.

The Defense Ministry said 90 percent of search and rescue operations have been completed as the government makes repeated calls for international help.

In this sense, the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, sent tents, blankets and plastic sheets; the World Food Program delivered food reserves for some 14,000 people in the province of Paktika.
