Mayabeque, Cuba: Lemay Gutiérrez finished fourth in the first performance of a Cuban in the world freediving championships in the pool, according to Radio Jaruco.

The event takes place today in the Kuwait 2023 edition, organized by the World Confederation of Underwater Activities (CMAS).

“I did 121 meters in the three minutes required in a 50-meter pool in the dynamic apnea modality without equipment, which led me to place fourth,” Gutiérrez told JIT from the headquarters.

“It demands a lot, because you can’t help yourself with fins, but I improved my personal best and was a few meters away from breaking the national record,” the rookie Cuban champion said.

?This Wednesday I will be in the dynamic modality with bifins. I hope to be among the leaders?, this diving instructor for more than 20 years at the Memories Jibacoa Beach Resort Hotel expressed.

On the last day of the competition, Gutiérrez will have options to shine more, since his strongest event will be held, said the person who participated in Pan-American and Central Caribbean tournaments and international cups.

?For the first time, Cuba attends a World Apnea Championship in the pool. That is why I live doubly proud and happy?, concluded the Jaruqueño, a practitioner in childhood and youth of gymnastics, karate, soccer and fencing, in which he climbed the podium in the school category.

Gutiérrez Álvarez, 49 years old, won a silver medal at the Guayaquil 2022 Pan American Freediving Championship in the Pool, his previous international performance.
