Mayabeque, Cuba: The director of the National Group of Urban, Suburban and Family Agriculture, Elizabeth Peña, visited areas of Mayabeque with the purpose of promoting food production.
During her tour, she emphasized the importance of organizing and planning to meet the demands of tourism and the Ministry of Public Health regarding the production of medicinal plants.
The tour through all the country’s provinces aims to intensify the production of vegetables, the sowing of medicinal plants and increase local self-sufficiency.
As part of the trip, they visited the provincial farm of medicinal plants, located in the Catalina de Güines Popular Council, and the producer Reinaldo Pérez Ortega of Finca San Marcos in the Hugo Rivero Credit and Services Cooperative of San José de las Lajas, who stands out in fish farming and has a contract with Acuabana.
They were also at the La Esperanza farm with the producer Lázaro Rafael Fundora Hernández, belonging to the CCS Nelson Fernández of Madruga who obtains healthier food from agroecology and part of his assortments have been exported to countries such as Italy and Spain with excellent acceptance. .
