Mayabeque, Cuba: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy, Alejandro Gil Fernández, and the Minister of Agriculture, Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, appeared this Thursday at the Round Table to report on the current situation of agriculture, present the new policy for the commercialization of agricultural products, provide details of the Agricultural Development Bank and delve into elements of the country’s Economic and Social Strategy.
Gil Fernández said that after the Parliament session, three policies have been approved by the Council of Ministers. Among them, the industrial policy, this seeks to achieve modernization especially in strategic sectors until 2030.
The Minister of Agriculture, Gustavo Rodríguez Rollero, stated that the new policy for the commercialization of agricultural products, approved by the Council of Ministers, creates individual productive incentives and its Economic and Social Development Strategy.
He also referred to the need to eliminate a group of obstacles that hinder the commercialization of agricultural products, a claim of years of Cuban farmers and producers.
The new agricultural policy takes into account:
- The prices and the recognition of all the actors that participate in the commercialization of agricultural products.
- It empowers local government administrators to set prices by storage and retail agreements, applicable by territories to agricultural products that do not have centralized prices.
- It requires publishing weekly prices for agricultural products, including those products with centralized prices and those that are marketed at agreed prices.
- It introduces different variants of electronic commerce in correspondence with the characteristics of the products that can be included in the online sale of goods with home delivery services.
The measures of this agricultural policy are of an internal organizational nature, the Minister of Economy said at the end of the Round Table. Nothing of that established costs foreign currency to the country. They are strategies that will allow unlocking agricultural support with our own efforts.
