Mayabeque, Cuba: The Licenciate in Primary Education María Magdalena González Collazo stands out for her love and dedication to her profession at the José Martí School in Güines.

“I leaned towards teaching since I was in sixth grade through the circles of interest. I graduated in 1976, my first experience was in Batabanó, I have been working for 43 years”, González Collazo said.

From her perspective the most exciting grade is the first one, children are innocent, teaching them to read and write is a difficult but beautiful task.

“Teaching is rewarding, my students remind me, today they are doctors, engineers, journalists and that really is priceless”, she said.

Primary Education Licenciate María Magdalena González Collazo is an example of attitude, perseverance and love with which the teaching sector works in Cuba.

Cuba today celebrates the Educator’s Day, in recognition of the educational work that the Revolution treasures.

On December 22, 1961, at the Revolution Square, Fidel announced the culmination of the Literacy Campaign and Cuba was proclaimed a Territory Free of Illiteracy.
