Mayabeque, Cuba: Guaranteeing the production of food to the population, given the health situation that the country is experiencing in the face of Covid-19, constitutes one of the priorities of the agriculture sector in San Nicolás.

According to the head and production specialist of the Basic Agricultural Business Unit in the territory, Belkis León Arencibia, during this season the cultivable hectares of beans and rice, products to replace imports, increased.

The current cold season presented difficulties from the beginning due to the weather situation and the attack of pests, for which measures are taken to prioritize these grain productions, as well as to rescue others, among them, onion, tomato, chili and cabbage, Leon Arencibia specified

The cultivation of cassava and banana are some of the alternatives to supply the missing agricultural products. For this, one hectare of both was planted for every thousand inhabitants of the municipality.
