Mayabeque, Cuba: A preservation team from the municipal museum of San Nicolás, Pedrín Troya, and members of the Logia Razón y Progreso will carry out maintenance work on the bust of Antonio Maceo, located in the park of the same name in the locality and the obelisk to the mothers located at the José Martí Park.
These actions will be carried out in greeting to the prompt commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the victory in Playa Girón and the International Workers’ Day on May Day.
The Pedrín Troya Museum in that town is the main establishment in charge of preserving the architectural and sculptural jewels of the territory.
According to Odalis Fraga, a museologist and specialist in the registry of cultural assets, the institution serves 45 local monuments, of which 38 are buildings with advanced deterioration that require immediate restoration. The municipality does not have the necessary materials to carry out an adequate treatment of the monuments and old local buildings, so it is monitored and checked every three months through which it is ensured that they are cleaned and preserved in order to maintain the most authentic local heritage.
