Mayra de la Caridad Cruz, winner of National Repentismo Contest.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The artist from Mayabeque, Mayra de la Caridad Cruz, reached first place in the 2021 Justo Vega National Repentismo Contest, with 112.5 points.

“Obtaining this award is an infinite happiness, because it is historical contest recognized not only in Cuba, but in the world. The mere fact of participating is already a merit”, expressed the young Mayra de la Caridad, awarded by a prestigious jury made up of Omar, José Enrique and Argel Fernández Granado.

This is the second insertion of her in the lid of hers. However, already in the past calendar she had won the Popularity Award, with the good news of having been broadcast on that occasion on national television.

Mayra belongs to the Ficho Guía repentismo workshop, from the Casa de la Décima of Mayabeque, directed by Lázaro Palenzuela.

 “Many are the poets who have supported and marked me, starting from my teacher Lazarito, who has helped me since I was a child. There are also essential names such as Héctor and Néstor Gutiérrez, Idalberto Montero, José Enrique Paz, Omar Mirabal, Julito Martínez (EPD), Osbel Suárez, Aramís Padilla, Tomasita Quiala, among others. I will be eternally indebted to all of them”, she stressed.

The celebration that crowns the work of Juan Cristóbal Napoles Fajardo, El Cucalambé, on the 192nd anniversary of his birth, also awarded prizes to Héctor Luis Alonso, from Matanzas, with 106 points, in second position, and in third place, with 104 points , to Yandry Hernández from Matanzas.

This meeting of peasant music also paid tribute to the 225 years of the founding of the city of Tunera, to the 145 years of the Miranda family, to the 60 of the speech Words to the intellectuals and to the 60 of the foundation of the National Association Small Farmers (ANAP) and the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).

It was sponsored by the National Council of Houses of Culture, the Ibero-American House of the Decima, the Ibero-American Center of the Decima and the Improvised Verse, the Ministry of Culture, the UNEAC, the AHS and the Provincial Center for Books and Literature.
