Since 2008 Cuba celebrates today September 30, the day of the pediatrician, in commemoration of the birthday of Professor Ángel Arturo Aballí Arellano, who is considered the father of this specialty in our country.
Outstanding member of the Royal Academy of Medical, Physical and Natural Sciences of Havana, emeritus professor at the University of Havana, was born in Matanzas on September 30, 1880 and is considered the greatest pediatrician that Cuba has given in all its history.
Dr. Aballí was the founder of the Cuban Society of Pediatrics on October 7, 1928 and trained several generations of Cuban doctors.
Today the nation recognizes those dedicated professionals, who even in the midst of the difficult conditions imposed by the pandemic, have remained in different activities protecting and caring for the health of children.
We congratulate the pediatricians for the achievements made in their work both in Cuba and in all the countries where Aballí’s followers fight against malnutrition and for children’s health.
