Mayabeque, Cuba: Peasants from the Hugo Rivero Cooperative, from San José de las Lajas, promote aquaculture to support food sovereignty.

At one point seven hectares, of the La Pintura farm, Reinaldo Pérez Ortega dedicates to raising fish.

“Getting into this world was my son’s initiative. In 2012 we began to manufacture the first tanks and in 2013 we began their exploitation and since then we have given 250 tons to the industry, next month we are going to extract about 20”, Reinaldo explained.

Through this practice they provide food to the population residing in the rural area near the entity. There Reinaldo has four water mirrors for the rearing of fingerlings, in a natural environment of fresh water where they provide adequate food to achieve the growth of the species.
