Elections in Bolivia.

Santiago de Chile: Washington and with it the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, intensify their interference in Bolivian internal politics to try to prevent this South American state from returning to an independent determination of its development as a country , Prensa Latina publishes.

It is no coincidence that both the US Secretary of State and the OAS strongly criticize the social mobilizations against the interim president Jeanine Áñez and defend an administration subjected to accusations of corruption and the terrible handling of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Almagro himself uncovered his unrestricted support for the coup plotters yesterday, today the government, stating that ‘the roadblocks – which were lived until a few days ago – represent low acts by trying to obtain political returns from the suffering of the people before the Covid-19.

“It is immoral and unworthy,” said this activist of US policies in the region, who during the coup and subsequent repression against the militants and adherents of the MAS, did not raise his voice of condemnation.

It is hypocritical to condemn now the mobilizations of the population and not the deaths caused by the coup plotters. He condemns those who demand democracy, and is silent in the face of the galloping corruption of Áñez and his family.

The arrival to power of Jeanine Áñez, as a result of the coup d’état of November 2019, which led to the resignation of former president Evo Morales, has supported the irruption and manual control of political groups today in Palacio Quemado, in a way favorable to the interests and objectives of the United States and its regional allies.

A few weeks before the presidential elections (defined for October 18) and the percentages of citizen support, which clearly favor the candidate of the Movement for Socialism (MAS), Luis Arce, the external and internal destabilizing groups, boosted by the work of the intelligence services and political-social organizations that usually appear in electoral scenarios to favor the movements further to the right, have taken action.

They seek to discredit the MAS and its leaders in such a way as to ensure the position of head of state, either with the current de facto president, Jeanine Áñez, or sectors also pro-American represented by the supremacist leader Luis Fernando Camacho and former president Carlos Mesa Gisbert, and thereby ensuring the control of this South American nation in the direction designed from Washington.

In these weeks there were proposals to suspend the elections (which have already suffered three postponements) with the excuse regarding the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic, an idea that arose, mainly, from the official sectors and political partners that gave the coup of State.

This against the grain of social movements, workers’ organizations and the MAS, that have mobilized so that the elections would not suffer further delays and would be held on September 6.

Political and communicational pressures on Áñez from her own sector, who would be assigned full responsibility for the epidemiological situation in the country, led to intensifying the proposal to postpone the date of the presidential elections. Thus, the decision of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE) favored the thesis of the right, but did not manage to diminish the support, which arises from the polls and from the street, for the duo made up of Luis Arce and David Choquehuanca.

It was proven that the postponement of the elections to October 18, had nothing to do with the Covid-19 issue, but to make effective the strategy aimed at increasing the time necessary to attack MAS forces, discredit their political figures, on all to former President Evo Morales.

This persecution took shape with the decision of the Constitutional Court of La Paz, which disqualified Evo Morales on August 7 from running as a candidate for the Senate.

This is a line of attacks by the ruling party and enemies of the MAS whose axis is aimed, fundamentally, at compromising the image of Luis Arce as a presidential candidate before his electorate. Arce himself denounced the coup government of the interim president, Jeanine Áñez, of carrying out a “judicial hunt against worker and peasant leaders.”

It is unquestionable that if the pro-American candidates win on October 18, the country will face difficult times that suggest a social outbreak similar to the one that began in neighboring Chile since October 2019.

If the Bolivian people do not want a similar scenario of social explosion for their multi-ethnic homeland, for ‘this Plurinational Republic’ as it was constitutionally declared, then choosing who heads the presidency is not a minor issue.

At this point, it is incontestable that in the range of applicants, only the duo of Luís Arce-David Choquehuanca has a programmatic, forward-looking, serious and beneficial proposal for the entire Bolivian population, for millions of men and women who radically changed their living conditions in the 14 years of the MAS government, as well as a change in the whole country in the social, economic and political plane.

Luis Arce’s victory gives a better chance of allowing the improvement of the position of the indigenous population, as part of priority government plans, solving urgent problems related to political representation in power, for example.

The low-income layers of Bolivian society and the rural inhabitants are those who look with the greatest hope at the triumph of Arce and the MAS.

A wait, full of longings so the social welfare and the protection of the State encompass the different spheres of Bolivian life.

If this is not the case, it is not necessary to be a seer to visualize that dependence on the United States and with it the internal instability and the impoverishment of the great majority of citizens will be an undeniable reality. (BSH)
