European Union: The European Union (EU) began the first phase of its vaccination program with doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine delivered to all 27 member states, Radio Rebelde reports.
The trade bloc faces a significant logistical challenge as vaccines are rolled out while a new variant of Covid-19 spreads across multiple countries.
The vaccine was authorized by the EU on December 21. Some countries started their vaccinations the day before, with doses administered in Slovakia and Germany.
Vaccinations began yesterday in Italy, Spain and France, with a focus on frontline healthcare workers, nursing home residents and the elderly.
