Indonesia: Indonesian Civil Protection Authorities reported today that the death toll from the January 15 earthquake and recent floods amounted to 96.

The National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) said in a statement that so far 81 victims have been reported due to the magnitude 6.2 earthquake that devastated parts of the province of Western Sulawesi.

The entity pointed out that to date 15 people have died in the province of South Kalimantan, as a result of the floods caused by the heavy rains that have occurred since last January 14.

BNPB spokesperson Raditya Jati explained that 28,000 citizens of Sulawesi and more than 40,000 in Kalimantan were taken to shelters.

More than 1,150 buildings, including five schools, were destroyed by the earthquake on the 15th, the spokesperson said. Meanwhile, around 25 thousand residences were affected by the heavy downpours. (YDG)
