Caracas: Venezuela is traveling today on the route of national unity, towards the consolidation of peace, President Nicolás Maduro said after a meeting held with representatives of the Episcopal Conference, Prensa Latina publishes.

The beatification of Dr. José Gregorio Hernández (1864-1919), venerated here as a saint of the people and doctor of the poor, this week focused the events of the South American country and gave rise to new calls for dialogue and agreement among Venezuelans.

?Venezuela must rediscover itself, it is time to consolidate the peace of Venezuela and here we go, that is our destiny?, the head of state emphasized yesterday from the Miraflores Palace, where he held a meeting with the apostolic nuncio Aldo Giordano and Cardinal Baltazar Porras.

Likewise, the president highlighted the message of peace sent this week by Pope Francis to the South American nation, in which he vowed that no foreign intervention would prevent Venezuelans from moving towards reconciliation and national unity.

?I pray that the new blessed inspire, in particular, all leaders, (…) trade unions, academics, politicians, business, religious, university students, (…) to work seriously in the achievement of an operational unit’, Francis asserted in a video released from the Vatican.

This is how it should be, the Venezuelans among us, without foreign intervention, without sanctions, without blockades, without threats, we must find our way, our solution, Maduro stressed when supporting the call of the Supreme Pontiff.

In the political sphere, the National Assembly (Parliament) this week received the list of citizens nominated to form part of the new directive of the National Electoral Council (CNE), a result of the dialogue process between the main political forces in Venezuela.

The head of the Electoral Nominations Committee, Giuseppe Alessandrello, highlighted the extensive work of analysis of the proposals presented by various sectors of society, which resulted in the selection of 103 aspiring CNE rectors.

In turn, the President of Parliament, Jorge Rodríguez, stressed compliance with the parameters established in the development of the process, especially the transparency and permanent dialogue between all the political and social sectors of the country.

Rodríguez reiterated the democratic character of Venezuelan society, by ratifying the electoral route and the support of the popular vote as the only way to gain power in Venezuela.

The renewal of the CNE and the recent repeal of the Law of constitutional and legal periods of the public powers will open the doors to the celebration this year of regional and municipal elections in Venezuela, to elect 23 governors and 335 mayors.
