The presidents of the three powers in Brazil.

Brasilia: The presidents of the three powers, Jair Bolsonaro (Executive), Luiz Fux (Judicial) and Rodrigo Pacheco and Arthur Lira of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies, respectively, will meet today before a new institutional crisis in Brazil.

On Monday Bolsonaro visited Fux and made the proposal for the meeting that will take place in the Supreme Federal Court, according to the newspaper O Globo.

Such an appointment will serve to ‘cut the edges’ around the 2022 elections, which Bolsonaro threatened to suspend if there is no printed ballot.

Likewise, the crisis grew after the Minister of Defense, General Braga Netto, and the commanders of the Armed Forces threatened the senatorial commission (CPI) that evaluates the government’s management before Covid-19, targeting its head, Omar Aziz.

Pacheco on July 9 repudiated Bolsonaro’s threats about the possibility of suspending next year’s election fair and insisted that the federal Constitution be respected.

?I am not afraid of elections. I give the flag to whoever wins in an auditable and reliable vote. In this way (the current one, without printed ballots), we run the risk of not having elections next year?, Bolsonaro told supporters on the occasion.

The ex-military man wants to print the electronic vote, with which the Superior Electoral Tribunal (TSE) does not agree and regretted the president’s comments.

For the TSE, any action to prevent the elections violates the Constitution and results in an abandonment of duties.

A proposal for a constitutional amendment for this purpose, authored by Deputy Bia Kicis, an ally of a former Army captain, is being processed in the lower house.

According to Bolsonaro, the voting system, which uses computers to record votes, is susceptible to electoral fraud and demands that only paper ballots are used.

?This is my last word on the matter. There will be printed ballots, because if there are no printed ballots, it is a sign that there will be no elections. The message is clear?, the head of state predicted.

In this regard, Pacheco, without referring nominally to Bolsonaro, commented: ?everything that is speculated in relation to a decline in democracy, such as the frustration of the next elections in 2022, is something that the National Congress, in addition to not being in favor of agreement, repudiates, of course?.

We are not going to admit any type of setback in this regard, he pointed out and remarked that the elections are non-negotiable.

According to the head of Congress, the Constitution must be preserved at any cost and democracy in Brazil is consolidated and assimilated by society and whoever wants any regression of the democratic rule of law will be singled out by the people and history as the enemy of the nation.
