Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 tense health situation in China.

Beijing: China received the week under tension today because 55 of the day’s 98 cases of Covid-19 are autochthonous, caused by a re-outbreak with the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and are linked to public places, Prensa Latina publishes.

The National Health Commission detailed that local infections come from Beijing and the provinces of Hunan, Hubei, Shandong, Henan, Hainan, Yunnan and Jiangsu.

The last territory was the most affected, registering 40 new patients. In fact, its capital, Nanjing, is the starting point of the current Covid-19 resurgence.

Apart from the autochthonous, China this Monday counted 43 imported and 60 asymptomatic in different demarcations.

With these figures, the Asian country accumulates at least 5,637 deaths and 120,837 cases in its mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan since the emergence of the disease and the virus that causes it in December 2019.

In addition, 476 patients infected with the virus, but without symptoms, are under medical care.

China basically keeps Covid-19 under control, but the outbreak with the Delta variant of SARS-CoV-2 began at the end of last July at Nanjing International Airport, branched out in at least 18 other provinces and is considered the worst since the start of the pandemic in Wuhan.

According to the investigations, the first cases are cleaning workers, they contracted the virus when they cleaned the cabin of a plane from Russia and since then more than 262 individuals have been infected, including nine are serious.

The entire country tightens epidemiological control because a greater spread of the pathogen is foreseeable and a situation such as that of Zhangjiajie, a city in the central province of Hunan that has become a new source of infections, must be avoided.

In that city, many of the patients are tourists who toured scenic areas and attended a theatrical show, whose director tested positive for Covid-19.

Both Zhangjiajie and Nanjing restricted mobility, applied strict confinement, blocked several highways, and proceeded with several rounds of health checks on all residents.

China raised to 91 the localities declared as areas of high and medium epidemiological risk and more and more regions are calling on the population to reduce internal travel and activities where there is a large public, as July closed with 328 autochthonous cases of the disease.

Beijing prohibited the arrival of vehicles, people, trains and flights from the provinces affected by the outbreak, while the Zhengzhou plant – recently overwhelmed by the rains – activated the contingency after detecting an outbreak in a hospital that left 27 sick among patients and workers.
