National Electoral Council of Venezuela.

Caracas: The National Electoral Council (CNE) today coordinates with international organizations the observation program for the regional and municipal elections scheduled for next November 21, Prensa Latina publishes.

In this regard, the president of the CNE, Pedro Calzadilla, held a meeting the day before with the head of the Latin American Council of Electoral Experts (Ceela by its Spanish initials), Nicanor Moscoso, in which they discussed the conditions for the development of accompaniment activities.

As part of his visit to the South American nation, Moscoso will witness this Tuesday the start of the voter registration audit, in order to guarantee the transparency and consistency of the voters’ data in the face of the democratic event.

Last December, Ceela confirmed the legitimacy of the electoral process that led to the renewal of the National Assembly (Parliament) of Venezuela for the period 2021-2026.

Likewise, last July an exploratory mission of the European Union (EU) visited the South American nation, with the purpose of evaluating the viability of participating in the process of observation and monitoring of the upcoming elections.

The experts appointed by the EU held a broad agenda in Venezuelan territory, where they verified the existing guarantees for the celebration of this process, and held meetings with electoral, governmental and legislative authorities, as well as representatives of the main political forces of the country.

The visit of this exploratory mission responded to the invitation sent by the CNE to the European Union and the United Nations Organization to participate as international observers in the upcoming election day.

In 2020, the community bloc ruled out sending observers to the legislative sessions held on December 6, questioning the existing conditions for the development of the process and imposing a series of conditions, rejected by the governmental and electoral authorities of the South American nation.

Venezuela will go to the polls on November 21 to elect the country’s 23 governors and 335 mayors, as well as members of the regional legislative councils and municipal councils.

The renewal of the CNE and the convocation of the so-called mega-elections constituted a direct result of the agreements of the national dialogue table installed in 2019 between the Bolivarian Government and several opposition parties.
