United Nations: The high-level debate of the UN General Assembly in its 76th session concludes today, leaving many concerns of world leaders on the spotlight, especially focused on the pandemic, Radio Havana Cuba publishes.
The need to have an anti-Covid-19 vaccination plan, guarantee equitable access to immunizers and develop a strategy to recover from the health crisis has centered most of the speeches of the heads of State and Government who participated in the event.
Climate change and the urgency of taking action to reverse current environmental damage were also highly discussed in the plenary session of the General Assembly.
Several dignitaries from the Latin American and Caribbean region are on the list of speakers on this last day of the debate, including Nicaragua, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica and Grenada.
Senior representatives of countries facing conflicts, such as Yemen, Syria and Afghanistan, are also expected to speak on this sixth day of the event.
More than 100 heads of State and Government arrived during the last days to the plenary session of the General Assembly, after in 2020 the pandemic prevented their presence at the United Nations headquarters in New York and the debate was held for the first time virtually.
On this occasion, to prevent the spread of Covid-19, strict sanitary protocols were established within the building, such as the use of masks indoors and physical distancing, while many leaders chose not to physically present themselves and send their prerecorded intervention.
