La estabilidad en la dieta influye en la salud de los abuelos

Studies carried out by experts in San José de las Lajas, the capital of Mayabeque, show that every time there are more the women and men over 60 years of age and less those who are born, therefore this age group becomes the most abundant and which demands more attention.

In the province of Mayabeque over 72 thousand people are currently over the 60 years. The oldest municipality is Jaruco.

The sixth decade of life brings in hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, renal failure, because the organs have their expiration date.

In Cuba, statistics predict that by 2020, 21.5 percent of the population will be over 60 years old. That is, older adults will be those born with the triumph of the Revolution in 1959.

By 2030 the figure will rise to 30.3 percent, which means that more than a quarter of the population will belong to the group of the elderly.

The new Constitution of the Republic of Cuba states in its article 73, paragraph 201 that: “The State, society and families have the obligation to protect and assist older adults as far as each one is concerned and to promote their integration Social”.

This shows how the Cuban state prioritizes older adults and their commitment to act responsibly in the face of the challenge represented by the elderly.

In this sense institutions and programs are promoted to improve the quality of life of the elderly, among them the grandparents’ houses, focused on socialization, physical and mental exercise and the development of creative abilities.

These institutions help family members who live with the elderly to develop their life projects without neglecting work or study, which translates into harmony for the home.

Stability in the diet and the link with other institutions such as INDER and Culture influences the health of the grandparents.
