I was there, I visited the church rebuilt after the burning of Bayamo, the same church where the hymn that would eventually become the symbol of our nation was for the first time sang.

On October 20, 1868, Perucho Figueredo, put melody to the independence feat and music to the machete charges carried out by our mambises. That day, Perucho left a mark on the history of the nation, becoming the Day of Cuban Culture.

Since August 22, 1980, in a meeting of the Council of Minister, the date was established to celebrate the annual commemoration of the emergence of Cuban culture. Every October 20, our country becomes a party from Maisí to Cabo de San Antonio.

We evoke a hymn that taught us from a very young age not to fear a glorious death, because to die for the homeland is to live, not to bow down to anyone and break the chains, especially those of ignorance.

Culture is not only art, but everything that has to do with social life; it is a creator of values and ethics; that is why every October 20, through artistic manifestations, we celebrate freedom, the essence of Cuban roots.
