The genetic improvement of crops is of great impact for Cuban agriculture.

Mayabeque, Cuba: The genetic improvement of crops is of great impact for Cuban agriculture. This is stated by the director of science and technological innovation of the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences (INCA), of San José de las Lajas, Dr. Yanelis Camejo Serrano.

“We have had an impact on tomato cultivation with the Elbita variety, resistant to diseases, to favor yields, which is what the country needs”, Camejo Serrano said.

Regarding the importance of the productive chain for the development of the economy and food sovereignty, she stated:

“It is important to contribute to the union with different companies, Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC), with research institutions and universities. In this sense, we train farmers in the Valley of Peru, in agricultural companies and other places”, the director of science and technological innovation at INCA commented.

The production of more food for the people is the call of the highest leadership of the country. A call in which INCA has an active participation.
