Mayabeque, Cuba: For the first time in the history of this young province, four players make up the national team that will represent us in the Third Caribbean Cup, which opens on May 8 in Curaçao.
They are outfielders Denis Laza Spencer and Yasniel González Vega and pitchers Marlon Vega Travieso and Yadiel Martínez. The quartet gave an outstanding performance during the 60th season of the National Baseball Series.
Laza Spencer had a brilliant season, was the best right fielder, on offense he accumulated 17 home runs and drove in 74 runs.
In left field, he was imitated by Yasniel González Vega, the Guajiro from Quivicán, fourth bat in the Huracanes lineup and averaged 338 and a defense of 989.
At the age of 19, the young Marlon Vega Travieso from Bejucal, in his debut in the National Series, won 9 challenges, only lost two and was elected Rookie of the year.
The pitcher from Quivicán, Yadian Martínez, one of those who struck out the most and achieved a good average of earned runs allowed.
The nine participants will be divided into two groups: Elite and Development. Each one will have their champion.
