Mayabeque, Cuba: Identifying cases of coronavirus in population groups where the highest incidence of the disease is registered is the objective of the study carried out by the Department of Hygiene and Epidemiology of Jaruco.
34 rapid antigen tests were applied last Monday in the neighborhoods that correspond to the medical office number 8 of the municipal seat, resulting positive three of them.
As part of this health strategy, last Friday, the laboratory technicians of the Noelio Capote Comprehensive Teaching Polyclinic carried out a sampling of 51 people from the Family Doctor and Nurse’s Office number 7, in their own homes, which yielded four positive results.
This health area reported 65 positive cases in the last 15 days, hence its selection for the study that, in the opinion of the Epidemiologist of Jaruco, Roberto Jesús Pérez León, “prevents apparently healthy patients from transmitting the virus in the community”.
In the coming days, real-time PCR tests will be applied in other areas of the Popular Councils that register the highest transmission of the coronavirus almost at the end of September.
Pérez León stressed that despite a slight reduction in infections in the last five days, people should not lower their guard in the territory.
He warned that there are still those who hide the symptoms at the idea of being referred for admission to health institutions, which is irresponsible behavior and puts the lives of the most vulnerable at risk.
Detecting the disease is today the fundamental task of health workers, but cutting transmission in Jaruco requires citizen support, the specialist stressed.
