Israeli aggression in Gaza caused multimillion-dollar economic losses.

Ramallah: The Gaza Strip suffered damages worth 570 million dollars as a result of the Israeli aggression last May, which caused more than 250 deaths and left serious socio-economic consequences, revealed a report released today, Prensa Latina publishes.

A study by the World Bank specifies that 380 million dollars corresponded to damage to infrastructure and 190 million to economic losses.

He highlighted that the social sector was the most affected by the Israeli armed forces’ land and air bombardments during the 11 days of conflict, followed by production, finance, agriculture, services, commerce and industry.

The investigation was carried out in coordination with the UN, the European Union and the Palestinian National Authority, as well as society and the private sector of that enclave, where just over two million people live.

According to the text, quoted by the official Palestinian news agency WAFA, the process of rebuilding that area in the first two years will cost at least 485 million dollars

A rapid recovery in the short term will depend on the financial support of the international community, as well as the cooperation of Israel to accelerate access to materials and equipment intended for civilian purposes, he stresses.

For more than a decade the government of Tel Aviv has maintained a blockade against that Palestinian area.

In this regard, he warns that among the most urgent actions is the delivery of cash for some 45 thousand people who need food assistance and prioritize the construction of houses after the total or partial destruction of some four thousand homes.

The document highlights that in the coastal enclave unemployment exceeds 50 percent of the economically active population and that more than half of its inhabitants live in poverty.
