Mayabeque, Cuba: The import substitution program is a priority in Mayabeque during the current cold season. This in turn contributes to food sovereignty and the national economy.
The director of various crops in the Agroforestry Business Group of the territory, the agronomist Carlos Suarez Álvarez, said that to meet the 1,600 tons of beans planned they have the necessary resources.
The main destinations of the grain are the substitution of imports, the national balance, the production of seeds, social consumption and the tourist centers with which it has agreements.
Another challenge of the current cold season is the sowing of corn, a crop also intended to substitute imports and to guarantee the seed for the next spring season.
During this period they allocated some four thousand hectares of land for the sowing of viands, vegetables, grains and fruit trees. The figure exceeds that of the previous period with a view to achieving superior productive results.
