Mayabeque, Cuba: The National Company for the Protection of Flora and Fauna Refugio de Fauna Golfo de Batabanó promotes projects aimed at maintaining and conserving the environment.
According to the head of the municipal management body for Science, Technology and the Environment (CITMA), Elenne Quiñonez Echevarría, among the most outstanding projects are marine ecosystems, environmental education, flora and vegetation, forestry and surveillance and protection.
The environmental education project, for the seventh consecutive year, contributed to the creation of nine circles of interest, reaching 60 percent of the population of the identified groups.
“Meetings were held with workers from different entities, where they discussed issues related to the protection of coastal marine resources, protected areas and in relation to the main environmental problems that affect the coastal area in general.
For the Science and Technology Forum at the provincial level, they selected the works: Achievements and Results of Monitoring in the Gulf of Batabanó Fauna Refuge, by the author Elvis Leiva Lou, and Environmental Education Actions related to the Manglar Vivo project, by the author Rosa Lidia Aro Aguiar.
