Physical distancing, hygiene and the correct use of the mask face are the most effective measures against the new Coronavirus.

Mayabeque, Cuba: In response to the complex epidemiological situation that the province of Mayabeque is presenting today, the Temporary Working Group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus in the country, implements a new health protocol to combat COVID 19.

Regarding the diagnostic conduct, symptomatic people with a positive antigen test will undergo PCR immediately for confirmation.

Symptomatic patients with a negative antigen test will be re-evaluated after 48 hours with another antigen test, and if positive, it will also be confirmed by PCR.

The new health protocol establishes that the contacts of confirmed cases will be in isolation at home for 14 days and if they present symptoms they become suspects and the same algorithm provided for this kind of patient is applied, that is, through the doctors’ office they are referred to the specialized consultation of  Respiratory Infections Disease to perform an antigen test and if positive, a PCR is performed.

Patients who are in home isolation must have a systematic follow-up by the doctor and the health area nurse and if they present any symptoms they must report it during the investigation. If they remain asymptomatic, NO tests will be performed in that 14-day period.

These people must take extreme hygienic measures, including disinfection of surfaces, the use of mask faces and keep their distance as much as possible.

Travelers who arrive in the country, as part of the border check, will undergo an Antigen Test with a SUMA equipment or biosensor and if the result is positive, it is confirmed by PCR.

All travelers at the end of the quarantine will undergo a PCR and in the case of those who come from Russia it will be on the 12th day of the isolation period and the rest, on the fifth day.

If the traveler has symptoms within 14 days, then he becomes a suspect and the approved algorithm for these cases is applied.

The new health protocol also establishes that the patient with clinical discharge criteria and with five days of a positive antigen test or the start of treatment with nasalferon, will be carried out an evolutionary antigen test because they are suspicious, and if positive they will be re-evaluated for clinical discharge at 48 hours and if it persists, the patient will have a PCR in the next 48 hours.

The persistent positive patient with 14 days of having confirmed the disease and clinical discharge criteria will be discharged with follow-up by the family doctor and nurse.
