Mayabeque, Cuba: The discus thrower from San José de las Lajas, Melany del Pilar Matheus, won the silver medal in the first Junior Pan American Games in Cali-Valle, Colombia.
Melany managed to launch the discus at 54.31 meters, which earned her the second place on the podium.
The silver of Matheus along with her partner Silinda Morales, who was crowned with a shot of 59 meters and 13 centimeters in her first attempt, were the first medals in the king of the sports for Cuba in the continental multisport event for young people .
Cuban athletics added two more golds to the medal table at the First Junior Pan American Games and they came thanks to the performance of the eight hundred runner Daily Cooper and the long jumper Maikel Vidal.
Cooper managed a time of two minutes and eight seconds. Another gold also predicted was that of the long jump, where Cuba had two representatives and the gold came through Maikel Vidal, with a stretch of 7.97 meters.
In this way, Vidal continues to achieve success in a test in which Juan Miguel Echevarría and Maikel Massó stand out for Cuba, silver and bronze in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The other Cuban who saw action in this discipline was Daniel Mustelier, who was in tenth position with a jump of 7.20.
