Mayabeque, Cuba: The Rubén Martínez Villena community, from Madruga, changes its image and is revived with the help of the neighbors and the support of the local government, in response to the call of the highest leadership of the country to attend with greater rigor and sensitivity the social problems.

That settlement, located in the Aguacate popular council, was diagnosed as one of the neighborhoods in vulnerable conditions and efforts were directed towards it to gradually provide a solution to the needs of its inhabitants.

In this sense, the sports complex and its main areas were repaired and the start-up of the pool already projected in the economy plan is pending.

Work was also completed in the adjoining classrooms of the Raúl León Polytechnic Institute, including the practical workshop, which contributes to strengthening the quality of the training of future technicians.

The neighbors, together with the various crops company, Rubén Martínez Villena, rescued the organic farm located in the area and now work at the point of sale for the commercialization of food; they also carry out voluntary work in the collection of micro-dumps and the cleaning and beautification of the areas with the purpose of improving the environment.

In that community there are still great challenges for Madruga’s government associated with the elimination of sewage dumping and a citadel where 17 families currently reside in unfavorable conditions.

Added to this is raising the quality of services and working with responsibility and interest to make all the improvements achieved today sustainable. Two other communities are also included in the social transformation program, they are El Mudo and La Vija.
